Unawatuna is a coastal town in Galle District of Sri Lanka, and situated approximately 108 kms (68 Miles) south of Colombo. Unawatuna is a major tourist attraction in Sri Lanka and famous for its beautiful beach and corals. The coral reefs and the waters make it an ideal and safe place for sea bathing swimming, wreck and reef diving and surfing. Unawatuna beach was once claimed to be one of the twelve best beaches in the world.
Unawatuna also traces its roots to the great epic "Ramayana". When the monkey-worrier "Hanuman" was bringing a part of "Himalaya" mountain to find medicinal-herbs to heal "Lakshman", who was wounded trying to save "Sita" from king "Ravana", a chunk of it fell-down in the "Rumassala" in Unawatuna.
From Airport : Take the Katunayake Colombo Expressway (E03) / Outer Circular Highway (E02) / Southern Expressway (E01) Exit from the 7th interchange Baddegama to Unawatuna
Puttalam - Colombo main road (A003) / Colombo – Galle main Road (A002).
(However the drive on the A003/A 002 will be more time consuming than other option)
