Induruwa & Kosgoda are very small towns located in Southern Province in Sri Lanka. Induruwa is 67 Kms (42 Miles) south of Colombo and just 5 Kms (3 Miles) to Kosgoda from Induruwa. Kosgoda beach is world famous for its sea turtle conservation projects. The hatcheries pay fishermen for eggs that they collect at night along the long sandy beach. Although October to April is the main laying season, some eggs (mostly green turtles) can be found at Kosgoda throughout the year. The natural beach of Kosgoda with lots of plant life, less human activity and construction is unique for the area and ideal for sea turtle nesting.
