Familiar with the famous image from Sri Lankan hill country, where the red train snakes through the lush tea plantations? Well that is a glimpse from the city of Hatton.
Hatton is a town in the Nuwara Eliya District and it is approximately 44 km (27 miles) south of Kandy and is situated at an elevation of 1,271 meters (4,170 feet) above sea level. The Hatton Railway Station is located on the Main Hill Country (Colombo – Badulla) railway line and on the A7 road, a part of the Avissawella – Nuwara Eliya main road.
Whilst Hatton serves as a gateway to Adam's Peak (Sri Pada) and Sinharaja Forest Reserve, it is better known for its Ceylon tea plantations and industry. In year 2008 part of the Hatton town, including religious places was gazetted as a Religious Zone by the Government of Sri Lanka.
